Kyle Hawkins is a nationally recognized appellate specialist and Chair of the firm’s Texas appellate practice. He represents businesses in complex commercial cases at the trial and appellate levels.

From 2018 to 2021, Mr. Hawkins served as the Texas Solicitor General, the state’s chief appellate litigator. In that role, he argued nearly 30 appeals and briefed dozens more at all levels of the state and federal judiciary. Mr. Hawkins has argued four cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, six in the Texas Supreme Court, and 18 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Hawkins is the only practicing lawyer to have argued five cases before the Fifth Circuit sitting en banc—and he prevailed in all five.

Before joining Lehotsky Keller, Mr. Hawkins was a partner at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where he was a member of the appellate and constitutional law practice group. He previously served as a law clerk to Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. of the U.S. Supreme Court, and to Judge Edith H. Jones of the Fifth Circuit. He earned his law degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as the Editor in Chief of the Minnesota Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. He earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard College.
