Judge Sam S. Sheldon

Bio Information

Since 2018, Sam Sheldon has served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Texas.

Judge Sheldon received his bachelor and master’s degrees in political science from the University of Southern California (USC). While at USC, he proudly served as the Student Body President. Judge Sheldon received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.

Judge Sheldon spent the first ten years of his legal career practicing civil litigation in his hometown in San Diego, California. He was a litigation associate and then litigation partner in the San Diego office of Cozen O’Connor. He also managed his own law firm in San Diego.

In 2007, Judge Sheldon moved to Laredo, Texas to become a federal prosecutor. He transferred in 2010 to DOJ’s Criminal Fraud Division in Washington, DC where he served as the Chief of the Health Care Fraud Unit. As Chief, he was responsible for overseeing the prosecution of health care fraud for the entire United States.

Judge Sheldon returned to private practice in 2013 where he was a partner in the Washington, DC office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, and he chaired the firm’s Health Care Practice Group.

Judge Sheldon returned to Texas in 2018 after his appointment as a United States Magistrate Judge.
