Judge David Hittner

Bio Information

David Hittner has served as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas since 1986. He is a graduate of New York University and New York University School of Law and is a member of the Texas and New York bars. Following law school, he entered the United States Army where he served for two years as an infantry captain and paratrooper. Upon completing military service, he practiced as a trial attorney in Houston for 13 years and served as judge of the 133rd District Court from 1978-1986. Judge Hittner is the recipient of the Samuel E. Gates Award of the American College of Trail Lawyers, the college’s highest national recognition for the improvement of the litigation process in the United States, and the Presidents’ Award of the State Bar of Texas as the Outstanding Lawyer in Texas. He is a member of the American Law Institute, is the author of a three-volume book on federal civil practice and procedure, and has published over 90 legal articles, including 14 law review articles.
