Macey Reasoner Stokes is a partner at Baker Botts in Houston and Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group.  She was ranked Band 1 in Litigation: Appellate - Texas by Chambers USA in 2024 and 2023 and received the 2022 Gregory S. Coleman Outstanding Appellate Lawyer award from the Texas Bar Foundation.  Macey was named one of the Top Ten Most Influential Texas Appellate Litigators by Business Today 2023 and one of LawDragon’s 500 Leading Litigators in America in 2025.  She has been named to Super Lawyer’s Top 100 Texas list for 2023, its Top 50 Women Texas list annually since 2021, and its Top 100 Houston list annually since 2016.

Over her 30-year career, Macey has handled a wide variety of civil appeals and extraordinary proceedings in both state and federal court, with significant experience in appeals for oil and gas and other energy clients. She has frequently provided appellate assistance at trial in complex, high-stakes litigation.

Macey serves as an appointed member of the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee and is a Past President of the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit, a Past President and Greenhill Fellow of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, and a Past Chair of the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas.  She has been Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1998.

Macey earned her B.A. in History, summa cum laude, from Yale University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  She earned a J.D., with high honors, from the University of Texas School of Law, where she was a Townes-Rice Scholar, an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review, a member of the Order of the Coif, and a Chancellor.  Following law school, Macey served as a briefing attorney to Chief Justice Thomas R. Phillips of the Supreme Court of Texas from 1993 to 1994.
