03/20/2015 Judge John V. Singleton, Jr. died peacefully Friday, March 20, 2015, on his 97th birthday. Judge Singleton was born in Kaufman, Texas March 20, 1918. He was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson June 28, 1966, to a newly authorized seat in the Southern District of Texas. He was confirmed by the Senate July 22, 1966, and received his commission July 22, 1966. Judge Singleton served as Chief Judge from 1979 to 1988. He assumed senior status April 1, 1988, and retired June 1, 1992.
