| Naturalization Records Search Methods |

The U.S. District Court in Houston has two sets of microfilm. The oldest microfilm is of copies of index cards, or the stubs from the naturalization certificates. The second set of microfilm was prepared from information on naturalization stubs. The microfilm was followed in the late 1980's with a computer program that was used until 1991, when the filing of naturalization ceased. Frequently, searches must be done on one or more search vehicle, because the person requesting the search is unsure of the date on which naturalization took place. If the search yields a naturalization record for the individual, a certificate of search is prepared showing the person's record. Only information from the Court's records may be certified. If no record is located, a certificate of search may be prepared showing that no record was found. In either case, the search fee is $15.00. If the person located the record themselves on the court records from 1992 and forward, a $15.00 fee must still be charged if a certification of record is issued. The charge is for the preparation of a certificate of the court record.
