New Fees and Fee Increases Effective December 1, 2013

The Judicial Conference has approved changes to the federal court miscellaneous fee schedules. Effective December 1, 2013, the following changes will take effect:

1. The filing fee for an appeal to a Court of Appeals will increase by $50, for a new total of $505.

2. A new fee of $176 for filing a motion for sale of property free and clear of liens under 11 USC 363(f) in a bankruptcy case will take effect.

3. The fee for retrieval of boxed records from the National Archives and Records Administration will increase to $64 for the first box and $39 for each additional box.

4. The $53 fee for checks returned for insufficient funds will be made explicitly applicable to any form of payment returned or denied for insufficient funds.

The Court will be updating its Schedule of Fees to reflect these changes before the end of November, and the new fees will be applied as described above to affected activity beginning December 1, 2013.
